The Secret | How to use The Secret to Get Fit Part II
By leily on Mar 21, 2007 in Fitness
By now you’ve seen the DVD, read the book, watched the video on You Tube, or at least heard about The Secret on The Oprah Winfrey Show. This DVD presentation brings to light the fact that we can change our reality simply by changing our thoughts. This isn’t a new idea. The Secret was inspired by a book written by Wallace Wattles in 1910, called “The Science of Getting Rich.” The knowledge has been around in book form for a long time. You may be asking yourself what a dusty, old book about getting wealthy has to do with meeting your fitness goals. Wealth takes many forms in life. If you have a fit and healthy body, then you are indeed wealthy because you have the physical ability to do so many things.
If this sounds like a lot of metaphysical mumbo jumbo or just plain garbage to you, just bear with me for a moment. Think about this…how excited do you get when you are planning a vacation? I don’t know about you, but I get pumped! I’m on the internet looking and planning where we’re going to go, what we’re going to do, where we’re going to stay. I can’t wait to go shopping for the new things I will get to take on our trip. The closer it gets to time to take off, the happier I am. Close your eyes and feel the excitement of that last really fantastic vacation you took. Wouldn’t it be great if you had that much enthusiasm for your eating plan and weight training program? How much more effective do you think you could be? How much faster could you reach your fitness goals?
Try this exercise every day for the next 30 days:
1. Make a list of all the things about yourself that you like. (Nothing negative allowed!)
2. Take the list with you to a full length mirror. Go through each item on your list and seek them out in the mirror.
3. Take time to really admire that part of your body and truly be grateful for it.
4. Close your eyes and savor your health, be grateful for the ability to think, feel, touch, and taste.
5. Be thankful for the ability to move your arms and legs and greateful that they carry you through each day.
6. Open your eyes, look into the mirror and say,”I am truly thankful for my health as it is and today I choose to do the things that will enrich and expand my health.” Be enthuisastic and smile from the top of your head to the tips of your toes as you repeat this affirmation. These affirmations must be internalized as good feelings.
Studies say that it takes 30 days it takes 30 days to change a habit or particular thought pattern, so give this exercise your complete focus for the next 30 days. If you feel your thoughts straying towards the negative, take your list out and look at it. Carry it with you if necessary in order to stay focused. Repeat the affirmation above to yourself or say it out loud whenever you can.
By the end of the excercise you will begin to notice the difference in the way you think about yourself and your fitness goals. Extending this exercise beyond 30 days will increase your success because you will have begun the process of reprogramming your brain to believe that clean eating and getting fit are fun and easy.
