Going Green!

Ok so after all this talk about “going green” and after hearing about it soo much on campus, I’ve decided that I’m going to try t go green as well- if only a little. And when thinking about things we can do to help our litle planet, I figured why not? There are LOADS we can do to save Mother Earth and no, I’m not going to tell you what you HAVE to do…but I can tell you what you CAN do. I’m going to try as well.

HANDBAGS:
K…we all know of my love for handbags and while I love carrying things around- I HATE plastic bags. They rip when you’re trying to carry heavy things. It’s like my bags always rip at the worst time-like when I’m soooo far from home and I have a million thing to carry when..”rrrriiippp”. There goes my bag and I’m stuck carrying everything and trying not to make it fall on the ground, knowing I have a whole half hour ’till I get home.

In regards to the environment: plastic bags can take between 15 and 1000 years to break down in the environment. (www.planetark.com)…THAT’S WWAYYYYY TOOO LLONG! Think about it…plastic bags your grandma used back in the day is still lying around in the environment. And those bags along with the bags we’re throwing away is going to be killing (well..harming)your great grand children.

BUT as well know (or might havee heard), the whole resuable bag thing is “IN” now. With Anya Hindmarch’s bag (which I was 2 hrs late for…argghh)resuable bags are everywhere and they’re cheap!). here are a couple that I noticed:

Of course the Über-Chic “I’m Not A Plastic Bag” (seen here on Petra Nemcova…the US version has navy blue writing). I wanted this bad boy but I arrived at Whole Foods 2 hours late…those bad boys sold out within the first two hours. I got there a mere fifteen minutes after the last one was sold so I was told…according to Charleen (the sales associate-I won’t ever forget the name of the bearer of bad news) I shoulda came and waited on the line (LINE?!?!) right when the store opened. But I digress…

Another one would be this bag from method home cleaning. They have home cleaning supplies (DUH) as well as cool aroma therapy things (I’m big on scents and candels and such and they have some really cute stuff). All you have o do is spend $20 or more on www.methodhome.com and the bag comes free (FREE!!! my favorite word). Here’s the bag:

If you aren’t feelin’ the whole “green tote” thing you can always geteries, etc) such as these Marc Jacobs totes…they”re like $10-$15

In regards to clothes…I must say that a lot of the “eco friendly” jeans and other clothes are really expensive! But there is a really cool eco friendly line out there called Stewart+Brown. Their clothes are lightweight, soft, and reallly pretty. Real feminine. Here’s their mission as stated on the website:
“Stewart+Brown believes in optimizing their designs and lives to attain the highest standards of quality and functional style while extracting the bare minimum from Earth’s precious capital.”

Here are a few looks from their site…

You can check out their full collection on their website . hey I hear they’re having a sale!

So whatever I can…I’ll try. I got me a little “Eco Tote” from Staples (Yes even Staples has hopped on board)…for $1.29 and it’s HUGE! and really cute so check that out also.

What about you? Are you into the whole “green” thing?
