The study by psychologists from a North Carolina university has found that men are much more likely to come to a consensus when defining what they find attractive in the opposite sex.

The study, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology, could mean it’s not just money and security that lures many attractive young women to far less attractive older men, The Courier-Mail reports.

Wake Forest University researcher Dustin Wood polled 4000 men and women, aged 18 to more than 70, on how attractive they found the subjects of a range of photographs of people of the opposite sex aged 18 to 25.

The study, perhaps not surprisingly, found men’s view on the attractiveness of different women was defined by physical features, with women who looked thin and seductive getting the highest ratings.

Link of the day – The Man Who Tells the Truth about Weight Loss

Go to any bar in any city at any given time and you’ll likely see the same pattern: hordes of Katherine Heigls making small talk with rows of Seth Rogans (pre-weight loss, of course). Perhaps this was why Knocked Up struck such a reverberating tone and enjoyed so much success—afterall, how many times (a day!) do we see attractive women giving schlubby (but lovable) men a shot?

Well, it looks like science (once again!) is behind this phenomenon. New research suggests that evolution is making women more attractive and leaving men as frumpy as they’ve always been.

While we’ve always assumed women are so much hotter now due to gym memberships, breast implants and gift certificates to Sephora, several studies suggest that stunning ladies are not only more likely to have more children, but also more likely to have daughters. Thus gifting the world with more good-looking women.

Markus Jokela, a researcher at the University of Helsink, followed 1, 244 women and 997 men throughout four decades and found that beautiful women had 16% more children than average-looking ones. Previous studies, by Satoshi Kanazawa, an evolutionary psychologist at the London School of Economics, say pretty women are 26% less likely to have sons.

If you are planning to attend beauty school, it is obvious that you have many options. There are local schools, night schools, part time schools, college courses… you really have a lot of options when it comes to beauty school, because, to be quite honest, the demand for a beautician is high in modern business, and the need only continues to grow.

Now, before choosing a esthetician school, you will need to understand two things about the beauty industry. One is that no matter where you go to school, you will end up getting a job. Two, if you don’t go to a good school and become a master beautician, than you will spend your life working for much, much less than you are worth. You will be underappreciated, underpaid, and will be left wondering what life would be like if you were at that “next level”.

Well, believe it or not, you have a choice. And the proper choice to choose is a master school of beauty. And, there is no school that teaches it better than Tricoci University in Chicago. This school offers you everything you need to know to be at that “next level” in the beauty industry. Stop looking up to the great beauticians, and see what it takes to actually BECOME ONE today by finding out what Tricoci has to offer.

Tricoci offers all the classes you would be interested in, with professional training in the fields of cosmetology, esthetics, nail technology, teacher training, and even more advanced education to continue your training. You would become part of a winning team that focuses on teaching you everything you kneed to know in a real world environment, with hands on demonstrations that bring the textbooks to life. You will also meet advanced instructors and teachers that care about you, your future, and your success.

Like you heard earlier, anyone can go to a beauty school and get a job… but only those who choose to become a master of beauty craft will choose among the finest schools. So, become that master you have always dreamed of being by getting in touch with Tricoci today, and see what they can do for you. Who knows? They might just be the exact thing you were looking for. And if following your dream of becoming a successful beautician is what you want, than I am positive that you won’t be disappointed.

So, do you find yourself with a bad nail fungus problem? Have your toenails gotten yellow, discolored, and unsightly? Have you found that nail fungus causes embarrassment, and would you do anything to find a fungus killer that works? Well, fungus of the toe nails, or fingernails can be treated if you just know how to do it.

The first step to battling fungal nail disorder is prevention. Warm, moist environments breed bacteria, and become a spawning ground for toenails to attract bacteria and fungus. Toenails are much more prone to getting fungus because most of the day our feet are kept in the warm, moist environment of our shoes. Other environments like showers at the gym should be avoided if you are prone to toenail fungus.

One of the most important things you can do to prevent toenail fungus is to keep your nails trimmed. However, don’t trim them too short, as small cuts and tears can leave an open door for bacteria to get in. Also, don’t share toenail clippers with anyone, as fungus can be spread this way. If you have athletes foot, treat it right away, as it can spread to your nails. Nails are tough, and made to withstand most things, which is why it is especially hard to treat nail fungus. Treat your athletes foot now, before the bacteria makes it into the nails.

There are a variety of fungus killers, over the counter ointments and sprays, and natural remedies for toenail fungus. Some of the top products include a product called Zeta Clear, which is a top rated fungus killer, Fungus Cream, and a product called toenail therapy. The internet is full of treatment options, and you should do some research before deciding on a treatment that is best for you.

Just remember, the key to healthy nails in in the prevention of toenail fungus, and it can be prevented with a few simple measures. Make sure you change your shoes and socks regularly, as sweaty socks and shoes are a breeding ground for bacteria. Some anti fungal spray for the insides of your shoes will also do tons of good for bacterial prevention. Also, while anti-fungal cream might be messy, it is often one of the better choices, as it can do such a good job of really getting at the fungus.

Just remember that when it comes to nail fungus, time is of the essence. The sooner you start fighting your nail fungus, the sooner you can be rid of it, and have the same old toes back that you used to know before they got yellow and fungal.

While baldness or hair loss might be a common problem among men, what many of you might not know is that it is a problem that is happening increasingly among women. Even the best hair loss products cannot fight hair loss of it stemms from an underlying medical condition. The number one key to treating hair loss among woman is getting the diagnosis right. If doctors can do this, than they can cure the medical condition first, and then follow up with some of the best hair growth products, or even the best hair regrowth products.

There are many reasons for hair loss among woman, including certain irregularities in hair growth, hormone changes, underlying medical conditions, and/or even cases of extreme stress or crash dieting can trigger hair loss. Hair loss is, however, becoming an increasingly common problem among even younger women. In fact, girls who are fifteen to sixteen years old even experience hair loss sometimes, although while this is not very common, it is also not rare.

There are a lot of treatment available for hair loss. But one thing you need to remember is that if you start losing hair, it is usually a good idea to see a doctor, as in women, usually, there is an underlying medical cause for the hair loss. A doctor can find the underlying problem, and usually stop hair loss without much trouble. More often than not, it is a simple problem that can be corrected either nutritionally, or with a common hair loss product. Only some cases are so severe that they threaten hair-loss altogether.

Sometimes, being on a certain prescribed drug, such as an anti-depressant or birth control pill, can play a huge roll in your hair loss. Try to think back and remember if you started any new drugs or medications around the time your hair loss started. Most often this will be the case, and the solution is as easy as switching medications. Also, iron and zinc deficiencies can cause a type of hair loss known as Telogen Effluvium. Starvation, alcoholism, or other types of chronic nutritional deprivation can also cause hair loss. Discontinuation of these practices almost always corrects the problem, and requires no further treatment.

Hair loss can be devastating to a woman, especially if she is young. Don’t be afraid of losing your hair, because there is plenty that you can do to keep it! Just remember not to panic or give up. Find a good doctor, get a checkup, and find out the reason. Once you isolate the reason, than your hair is as good as back again.

There are always a ton of things going on when it comes to fashion, beauty, wedding planning, hair care guides, beauty and fashion articles, and cosmetics. In fact, I don’t know if you would believe some of the things going on in our modern world as far as how people will go to better the way they look.

For example, did you know that it is becoming increasingly popular for women to redesign their genitals with plastic surgery? It is estimated that 1000 American women and about 800 U.K. women get vaginal plastic surgeries that range from the shortening of the labia, to clitoral un-hooding, to g-spot augmentation and even hymen reconstruction!

Most woman say, even three years after the surgery, that they are delighted with the way the procedures have cosmetically and sexually benefited them. However, some doctors disagree, saying that surgeries of this nature could in fact damage the genitals, produce scar tissue, and/or even decrease sexual sensitivity. So, for better or for worse, female genital redesign is a cosmetic fad that is booming.

Also, have you heard that there is a new movement to educate the public as to the hair care remedies you can find at home, as opposed to the expensive ones you pay for? For example, soaking your hair and scalp with olive oil is said to be very good for your head. You leave it in for an hour, rinse it out, and it leaves your head and hair completely moisturized. Also, did you know that mayonnaise can act as a substitute for conditioner? Simply lather into damp hair, and then rinse out. It will leave your hair soft and shiny as ever!

Did you know that in the past six years, the number of men who have chosen to get aesthetic surgery has doubled? Yes, doubled. Actually, one out of every ten aesthetic operations is now performed on a man. In fact, since women have so long dominated this area of surgery, there has been trouble with inexperienced plastic surgeons giving girl-like noses to guys! So, if you are a guy, and wanting to get a nose-job, than get a surgeon who knows what he is doing!

Surely you have heard this before, that the sun is not good for your skin when introduced in large doses. Well, this is being reinforced. It is recommended that you wear a hat, sunscreen, sunglasses, and protective clothing if you are going to be spending any amount of time in the sun. As exposure to the sun’s rays can help increase the likelihood of skin cancer and advanced photoaging, it is recommended more than ever before that you be careful just how much sun your skin gets, and that you not get too much!

I just knew I had to feature her on First Look Fridays. And so I am utterly pleased to bring you this week's edition, featuring makeup artist Dina Gregg! Dina hails from Boston and has an interesting, varied background that really helped to form and influence her work. Read on to discover more about this fascinating gal!

Can you tell me a little about yourself?
I grew up with a lot of culture and art influences. My mom's from Norway, and both parents love to travel, so that exposed me to other peoples, new perspectives, different aesthetics, traditions and local handicrafts. Mom was my music teacher in grade school, and Dad had been a theater major in college, so my family is basically four silly hooligans who love costumes, singing songs and affecting funny voices and playing characters. As I was the most visual in our house, I guess I was drawn to masks and beards and eye patches and -- yes! -- makeup!

How did you first become interested in makeup, and what led you to become a makeup artist?
You could say that art school (at Boston University) led to beauty school (Blaine) led to makeup school in Paris (Ecole Fleurimon), but I think that it all started much earlier. When I was in first grade, my sister Anika and I participated in Verdi's Aida (presented by Sarah Caldwell's Boston Opera Company, no less), and for a couple dozen performances we were bodypainted with brownish stuff that I can only describe as being akin to slip used for ceramics. Then our blonde heads were SPRAY PAINTED black! And voila! We were Egyptian.

I was also a ballet dancer for many years -- there is a photo of me about age seven, backstage in line to see the blue-haired "makeup lady," and -- though there is much commotion and tulle tutus around me -- my eyes are fixated on the powder, lipstick, cake eyeliner and brushes lying out on the table. I guess a picture really does speak 1000 words.

In my teen (angst) years I turned Goth. Way Goth. I might have been wearing Cleopatra liquid liner, but my skin was not at all Egyptian; instead I had a "Snow White tan." Lots of Coty loose powder and Revlon "Wine with Everything" red lips reapplied between every class. By appearances I was anti-establishment, but all the while my secret vice was fashion. My bedroom was plastered with tearsheets out of Vogue and whatever Ines de la Fressange Chanel campaign had just come out. I was as much in awe of Paloma Picasso and Anh Duong as I was Cindy, Christie, Helena, Naomi and Linda.

And there are many other reasons and ways I wound up here ... but these are the biggies.

What are some of the shoots and shows you've worked on that have stood out as highlights in your career?
I've worked with Karl Lagerfeld twice -- once at the Chanel Cruise collection presented at Grand Central Station, and once at Pier 59 where Karl was taking pictures for Harper's Bazaar. What can I say? Karl is an enigma and a warm man all at once. A self-proclaimed "cartoon character." Gotta love Karl.

Another turning point was making the cut on Pat McGrath's team. My first show with her was Dior Couture in January 2004, and what a testing ground to prove oneself! Ooh la la. You could say it was high pressure. But I just went for it, and when Pat checked my girl's face she only said one word -- "Perfect." I didn't know if I should faint or do a little dance.

Working on Make Me a Supermodel for Bravo TV was pretty rad, too. A really fun experience all around, plus I got to be on set with Tyson Beckford every week!

Have you worked with any makeup artists that inspired you? What did they teach you?
1) Naturally, Pat McGrath. She's taught me countless things, but I'm devoted to spill any beans about her, except maybe this rule of thumb: when the lips are deep red at Vuitton, keep the peaks from being too "witchy."

2) Denise Markey has shown me how to conduct oneself diplomatically (on set, in business in general) while still being fun to be around.

3) I've learned interesting stuff from Gucci Westman about layering products.

4) I got a nifty eyebrow trick from Dick Page.

What are the products and brands you simply can't live without?
Embryolisse
Elizabeth Arden Eight-Hour Creme
Karite Lips Shea Butter Lip Balm
Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage
Three Custom Color Specialists Mood Lighting Shimmer Cremes -- of course! The same goes for makeup. In the real world, making up the eyes, cheeks, lips, plus bronzer, etc. is all too much. We are all individuals with unique features. Play with YOUR own face to discover which feature to highlight, and also which makeup steps to OMIT. Sometimes a woman who rocks a signature lip color needn't wear concealer, while another person only needs blush, no mascara, and lip balm. Real beauty is not about looking airbrushed, it's about looking effortless.

2) Curl your lashes! Enough said. I'm a pretty curious person, so I love to discover new stuff all the time. I travel quite a bit, but even just tooling around downtown Manhattan on my bike can open up new worlds. Sometimes I go to a bookstore and flip through guide books to places I have yet to visit -- Madagascar, Galapagos, Rio, Micronesia. I love world cuisine as well -- Vietnamese food is my favorite!

Thanks so much to Dina Gregg for this fabulous interview. Don't get me wrong: it's very pretty, the quality is great, they all have a nice glossy finish and look great. The colors are very classic and would be a great addition to the permanent line instead of a limited seasonal edition. Who doesn't need great reds and rich pinks?

But compared to other offerings this season, the Essie collection is just not inspired enough to get one excited about fall colors. I got the mini pack that contains Forever Young, Lacy Not Racy, No Boundaries and Tomboy No More (I wish every company would sell a mini version of every collection. It's the best deal) to replace some old bottles of classic reds and pinks that are way past their prime, and a regular size bottle of Swept off My Feet which is a beautiful warm rose because I recently ran out of a similar color from Lippmann Collection and couldn't be bothered to pay $15 for a new one.

Not that every color needs to be a bold fashion statement and I'm a big advocate of classic looks, it's just when I'm looking at seasonal special editions I want to be surprised and excited and not to feel like I've seen it all before.

Essie nail polish is available locally at many nail salons and from Essie.com. The mini pack of four color retails for $18 and a regular size bottle is $8.

All photos are mine.
Copyright ©2006-2008 The Non-Blonde, under the author's name.
There are several innovative new nail polish collections for fall, but the one from Essie is not one of them. Don’t get me wrong: it’s very pretty, the quality is great, they all have a nice glossy finish and look great. The colors are very classic and would be a great addition to the permanent line instead of a limited seasonal edition. Who doesn’t need great reds and rich pinks?

But compared to other offerings this season, the Essie collection is just not inspired enough to get one excited about fall colors. I got the mini pack that contains Forever Young, Lacy Not Racy, No Boundaries and Tomboy No More (I wish every company would sell a mini version of every collection. It’s the best deal) to replace some old bottles of classic reds and pinks that are way past their prime, and a regular size bottle of Swept off My Feet which is a beautiful warm rose because I recently ran out of a similar color from Lippmann Collection and couldn’t be bothered to pay $15 for a new one.

Not that every color needs to be a bold fashion statement and I’m a big advocate of classic looks, it’s just when I’m looking at seasonal special editions I want to be surprised and excited and not to feel like I’ve seen it all before.

Essie nail polish is available locally at many nail salons and from Essie.com. The mini pack of four color retails for $18 and a regular size bottle is $8.
