Product Review: Max Factor Vivid Impact Eye Shadow »

Reviewer: Cinnamon Kitten

Brand: Max Factor
Name: Vivid Impact Eye Shadow
Size: 0.95 g / 0.034 oz
Approx. Price: approx. $5.49

I’m definitely a fan of anything that’s convenient when it comes to beauty products. The less time it takes me to get ready in the morning, the better (because it means I get to sleep more!), so these Max Factor eye shadow sticks looked pretty cool.

Available in 10 shade combinations, this is a double-ended loose powder eye shadow that comes with its own built-in applicator. Promising rich, intense colour and an applicator that makes it easy to aplpy as a shadow or a liner.

To Purr About:
- the colour is SUPER intense - the first time I tipped out some powder onto my eyelid I was shocked at how bold the colour was
- very light powder wasn’t greasy or too powdery, and stuck to my eyelid quickly and was pretty long-lasting
- once you get used to it, the applicator helped spread the powder on the eyelid quickly
- double-ended product means you get 2 great colours in 1 and the available colour combinations are really cool
- good blending shadow

Claws Out:
- is definitely too intense for everyday wear - definitely not something I’d wear to the office, or even during the day
- powder comes out quite quickly so it’s hard to regulate if you’re applying directly to your eyelid

Final Comments:
This eye shadow definitely lives up to its name of “Vivid Impact” - the colours are all bold and intense and really POP. The colour combos are well-thought out and there’s something that’s suitable for almost anyone. However, this is definitely a nighttime eyeshadow - the colours are too intense for daytime wear (for me, anyway). Also, the powder comes out a little too quickly, so it’s hard to apply it directly to the eyelid cleanly.

My contact, Samara, shared a nice tip with me on using this product: “If you tip a little bit of the powder out onto a piece of paper or surface and then blend the two shades together (and fine tune the amount of each color), it’s easier than trying to blend on your eyelid.”

So, this is a great eyeshadow if you want lots of colour and good staying power, but if you want something faster that you can use while on the go (more of an eyeshadow stick than a powder), than don’t be fooled by the packaging - this is definitely a powder, and not a stick.

Are You Ready For Prom? You Will Be Now With These Easy Prom Hair Styles »

Once you have finalized the gown, matching shoes and jewelry for your prom, it’s time to think about your hairstyle. A beautiful prom hairstyle is bound to fetch you all the attention that you deserve on your prom night. Therefore, your prom hairstyle must compliment your outfit, your make-up, as well as your attitude on the prom day.

Remember, not every type of hair color or hair style would go with you, but there is certainly a look that would work for you. You should aim at looking not only beautiful on your prom night, but also more confident and comfortable in your new hair style. So, you must plan in advance if you don’t want to miss this opportunity to look attractive and poised on your prom day.

You can choose a perfect prom hairstyle that goes well with your type of hair. Let’s have a look at some of the most attractive yet easy prom hairstyles:

Long Prom hairstyle

For long prom hairstyle, first wash your hair and dry it. Then, start rolling your hair from the middle. Roll the rest of the hair using a SASSY curler. Once you have rolled your hair, you need to wait for at least half an hour, and then start unrolling the hair. If you want, you can make a pony tail and decorate it with your hair ornaments. That’s an ideal prom hair style if you have long hair.

Short Prom hairstyle

If you have short, rough hair, which you may fine hard to curl, you use the prom hairstyle s described here. Shampoo and dry your hair. Use a DO-Z comb to part your hair in zig-zag style and use hair gel to soften your hair. Now, start rolling your hair using SASSY curler. Continue rolling until you have rolled the entire area you want to curl. Once done, let your hair dry for nearly half an hour. Start unrolling hair and arrange the curls the way you want by using a DO-Z comb. Finally, decorate hair using hair ornaments that go well with your dress.

Formal Prom hairstyle

Formal hair style goes with medium texture, long, and one-length hair. You need to mix small to medium sections of hair and start rolling your hair using hair curlers. Once done, let your hair dry for next half an hour, and then start removing the sassy curlers. Part the top section of hair and pin it up. Likewise, take the bottom section of the hair and roll it into a French twist. Use bobby pins to secure it at the right position. Now, back-comb the top section of the hair using a DO-Z comb and pin your hair. You must arrange the curls carefully and decorate it with appropriate hair jewelry. You can leave some hair if you are looking for a softer look on your face.

So, choose a prom hairstyle that flatters your body and immediately fetches you all the attention in your prom. It makes sense to choose and practice this hairstyle prior to your prom night. You should know which hairstyle would look best according to your physique. There are different hairstyles for people with different body-built. Do some research on the Internet, and choose an easy-to-do hairstyle, which would make you look gorgeous on one of the most special occasions of your life.

Cravat Shirt »

The other week during the Bloomies sale, I was struck by a need to buy something- anything- just to take advantage of the “40% on top of sale price” discount. Late for dinner and pressed for time, I randomly grabbed the first thing that caught my eye in my size: this black top with a white cravat from the Bloomies house brand, Aqua (below left). I figured if I really didn’t like it I can always return it later.
Ever since I have been wavering between love and hate. On the love side, the cravat detail is really cute and very retro French chic (as HG describes it). And I imagine it would look really cute peeking from under a blazer. It doesn’t look too flattering on the hanger, but it doesn’t look to bad on me. On the hate side, the contrast is a bit too sharp and on first impression, the cravat looks a little bib-like and over all looks a bit waitressy (at least, that was the first reaction of one of my friends upon seeing it). Though the cravat does seem to work on this Isaac Mizrahi dress (right) making it look feminine and sophisticated………
Another thing is that I can’t decide how I’d wear it. I know I said it’ll look cute from under a blazer, but if I pair it with black pants, it will look work-like, like the Valentino Red dress shirt here (right), which is not entirely bad, but if I wore it with a black blazer, I’d look very black ……. Casually I could try it with jeans like with the Marc by Marc Jacobs shirt above (left). I actually tried it with my khaki skinny jeans the other day, but it looked a bit odd. Maybe blue jeans? A skirts? Maybe I just don’t know how to rock the retro French look………
I should really stop thinking so much about a $40 top.

But what do you reckon? Is this a keeper or not?

Sarah Larson in Harper’s Bazaar June 2008 Issue »

The waitress-turned-reality-show-star-turned-model and George Clooney’s girlfriend, Sarah Larson, shares some personal facts about how she met the Sexiest Man Alive, their reality show guilty pleasure and her many adventures with Hollywood’s biggest movie star in the upcoming June issue of Harper’s Bazaar magazine that will hit the newsstands in May 20.

She is considered as the new It Girl by Harper’s Bazaar with the following tag line: ” Don’t Hate Her Because…She’s Beautiful, Fearless, and dates George Clooney”.

Here’s an excerpt of her interview for the said magazine:

On George and reality shows: “If George had been on a reality show, I don’t think I’d have talked to him. It would have been like, ‘That’s nice.’”

On eating scorpions in Fear Factor: “Good thing it didn’t deter him, though. “He still wants to date me, and I ate a scorpion”.

On traveling the globe and meeting world leaders. “I don’t get star-struck, but meeting people like [the Dalai Lama], I get star-struck” .

On Clooney’s intimidating fame: “I see him as a normal person, like anyone else. He just happens to have a well-known face. You realize who is good for you and who’s not pretty quickly.”

On first meeting George about four years ago while working at a Las Vegas resort, when she was attached to someone else: “We were hanging out and dancing and being goofballs. Nothing crazy. We talked, that’s it.”

On things getting serious in June of 2007 when they ran into each other at the premiere of Ocean’s Thirteen: “I got texts, and we just started talking. George is funny and sweet, and he’s good to be around. I see him as a normal person, like anyone else. He just happens to have a well-known face.”

On watching marathons of Rock of Love with Bret Michaels while recovering from their motorcycle accident last September: “We caught ourselves rooting for someone or getting frustrated. And we were like, ‘This is sad.’”
