Yummy411: Nails and Eyelashes »

On Friday, to make last preparations for a shoot, I stopped by Sally’s Beauty mainly for some lashes, but I was drawn into a collection of China Glaze lacquers- the WOW collection. This is one of the few places locally that I can actually see polishes by collection.

These are nice, ready for summer colors, though not a conservative work appropriate selection. I’ve defied the silent rules before of my workplace. I’m not sure how courageous I am, but if I ever feel like branching out wildly beyond my toes, I bought four of the six colors available: Pink Voltage, In the Lime Light, Turned Up Turquoise and Purple Panic. I’m really excited about these colors! They are supposed to be neon colors, but I disagree. Rather they are bold, fun, electric colors! These are also included in the Ink collection. Have any of you tried these before? Do you have a favorites?

For lashes, I tried the Ardell Invisiband Lashes in Luckies (pictured to the left). They are glam without being drag. I liked them a lot and will have to buy them for myself.

Other than that, I picked up a few containers of fun, Sally Girl glitter .
Can’t wait to do some looks with these goodies. Have you been to Sally’s lately? What did you get? Anything to look out for?

All Natural Skin Care »

Is There Such A Thing As All Natural Skin Care?

Yes, there is such a thing as all natural skin care, and very rarely does it come in bottles or tubes. Since the skin is an indicator of our overall health, you need to work on your overall health in order to get great, clear, toned skin. You still need to clean, exfoliate and moisturize your skin, but those steps alone will not guarantee great skin. In all natural skin care, you walk on the road to great skin holistically by doing the things you should be doing for your health anyway. Diet And WaterOne of the most important …#34; and overlooked …#34; steps in all natural skin care is paying attention to your diet and water intake. If all you eat is cheeseburgers and Coke, the look of your skin is going to be the least of your health problems. One of the side benefits of eating a balanced, varied diet low in protein and high in fiber is that your skin looks better.

For the skin especially, you need to drink plenty of good water …#34; at least 6 glasses per day. Herbal teas and flavored water can substitute for clean water, but nothing with milk or caffeine. Milk is more of a food than a drink and is rich in protein. Caffeine dehydrates the body and dries out the skin. Caffeine is in fizzy soft drinks, coffee, tea, chocolate and most energy drinks.

Wash In Moderation Washing in water and soaps or facial cleansers low in synthesized products only a few times a day is needed, depending on how dirty you get or how much you sweat in that day. Some people only really need to wash their faces once a day. If you wash too much, you strip your skin of its natural oils and then the skin gets paranoid. “What …#34; there’s no oil …#34; gotta make more and more!” Soon, you can’t wash enough to keep up with the extreme oil production. This can put a damper on any other all natural skin care procedures.

Exfoliation One of the other steps in all natural skin care is exfoliating with a brush or reusable rough pad for the skin rather than relying on expensive man-made creams to do it for you. And remember drinking all of that water? That also helps take away toxins from the body when stimulated by the pleasant scratching of an exfoliating pad or even a massage. Eating a heart healthy diet will also help the body get rid of toxins and help your skin in the process.

Anti-Aging Skin Care Advice »

Most people strive to look fit and healthy, which equates to trying to look younger. It’s a well-known fact that the best anti-aging procedure is the daily application of a good (15 or above SPF) sun block for both UVA and UVB rays. The free radicals found in the rays of the sun cause wrinkling and sagging of the skin by damaging the collagen and elastin.

Scowling, frowning and wrinkling the delicate skin around the eyes should also be avoided to minimize the formation of deep wrinkles and fine lines.

A rich eye cream is useful for warding off some wrinkling. However, for someone who has neglected sun block in the past or who already has the beginning of lines and wrinkles, it’s possible to utilize something a little more in-depth than anti-aging moisturizing creams.

There are a plethora of anti-aging treatments available by a professional. Many of the procedures performed in the U.S. are noninvasive, also called “lunchtime procedures”, and following is a brief description of the most often used:

- Microdermabrasion is popular among the 20-somethings because it will smooth the surface of the skin, an issue especially if acne scars are present. Skin tone is also improved. A fine spray of crystals are blasted onto the skin, removing the topmost cells. Desired results may be achieved in fewer than a dozen treatments, spaced approximately 2 weeks apart.

- Botox Injections are another popular anti-aging procedure. The botox prevents a person from moving facial muscles where it has been injected, thus preventing further wrinkle formation. The effect may last as long as six months.

- Liposuction is a fairly expensive procedure with a down-time of at least a week. It is used to contour the body by removing excess fat cells from just below the skin.

- Fillers are used to plump up skin for 4-12 months. Youthful skin is firmer and fuller than aging skin because it has plenty of collagen, which may have been lost due to the passing of time and sun damage. Depending on the area being treated the doctor will choose human collagen, bovine collagen or any of several other popular fillers.

- Lasers are an anti-aging tool that can correct baggy eyes, brown spots and leg veins. Some lasers can actually tighten the skin. Several sessions will usually be necessary.

- Blepharoplasty is a way to dramatically smooth out both the upper and lower eyelids using a minimally invasive technique.

- Chemical peels are useful to all ages because the formula is customized to each patient. Gentle glycolic acid peels can be used with great success by young people, but for someone with deep wrinkles, many brown spots, or uneven skin patches, slightly harsher peels can be used. A doctor will be the best source of advice in this matter.

With careful treatment (anti-aging skin moisturizing cream, rich eye cream) and protection (sunscreen, sun glasses to cut down on squinting) of the skin in early years, a complete face lift can be avoided and one of the previously described treatments may produce the effect of a healthy, glowing complexion in later years.

Top Make Up Tips »

Mascara

* To prevent smudging, wipe off any excess mascara from the wand before use.

* Don’t match your mascara colour with your eye colour.

* For full lashes that don’t stick together, use an eye lash comb, or a damp toothbrush to comb through your eye lashes.

* To make mascara stay on your lashes for longer, brush some foundation powder over your lashes before applying mascara to them.

Eye Shadow

* Test the eye shadow on the back of your hand to see how it appears on your skin tone.

* When mixing eye shadows, mix them well to give a uniform colour.

* Apply foundation to your eye lids first to avoid the eye shadow creasing.

Powder

* When using loose powder, choose a colour that closely matches your own skin tone, or to create a warmer glow, pick a powder that has a slightly pinky hue.

* For a dash of glamour, try using a powder with reflective pigments, giving you a subtle shimmery glow, perfect for nights out!

Foundation

* If you have an uneven skin colour, or imperfections, you may wish to use a concealer after you have applied basic foundation. Try to use this sparingly, and for extra precision use a makeup brush.

* If your foundation has become thick or is getting old, it can be rejuvenated by mixing it with moisturiser before application.

* During the summer months, skin tends to need less coverage and so you may wish to only apply foundation to specific areas rather than an all over base, to even out colour. For a lighter base, try using a tinted moisturiser instead.

* To keep your foundation flawless and skin looking soft and fresh, finish with a dusting of transluscent loose powder on your forehead, nose and chin, using a large soft brush.

* For an added healthy glow, lightly dust cheekbones with bronzer or blusher in a sweeping motion.

Nail Care

* Tap your nails on a hard surface every day. Tapping your nails has been shown to stimulate nail growth.

* Moisturize your nails and your cuticles to keep your nails looking young and healthy.

* Keep your nails clean with a good quality nail brush.

* Don’t cut your nails too short, or let them grow too long. Cutting them too short can lead to nails receding, and leaving them too long will leave you prone to breaking your nails. Ideally nails should be filed to just beyond the end of your finger tips.

* Use a file to shape your nails, and a buffer to smooth away imperfections.

* Remove nail polish every 4 - 5 days to let your nails breathe. Applying too many coats of nail polish on top of each other can cause the nails to dehydrate.

Cuticle Care

* Apply moisturizer to your cuticles often, this will help stop them from lifting up and looking ragged.

* Apply cuticle removal cream to your cuticles at least every couple of days.

* Don’t cut live cuticle skin. Only remove dead cuticle tissue. The removal of cuticles should be painless.

* Hang nails can be removed with cuticle scissors, cuticles should be pushed back with a cuticle pusher.
