Who doesn’t want to look younger? If you talk to 10 women, I bet 9 of them would like to appear younger. I’m only 32, and already I’m on a preemptive attack against wrinkles and the annoying signs of premature aging.
I swear by eye creams, moisturizers, and makeup to make myself presentable to the world. I have no interest in botox or surgical procedures for many reasons. If you’re looking for easy ways to look younger, try these tips:
- Let your skincare products set before applying your makeup! Doing so allows the product to penetrate you skin’s surface so it can do it’s job. In a pinch for time? Turn your hair dryer on Cool and blow it over your face to speed up the “drying time” for your skin care lotions and sunblocks.
- Look for products containing mushrooms. Mushrooms are rich in anti-oxidants and decrease inflammation which leads to wrinkles and loss of firmness. Check out Origin’s line of Plantidote products or Aveeno’s Positively Ageless line–all of which are packed with those beneficial ’shrooms (they don’t call ‘em magic mushrooms for nothing!).
- Use a nighttime moisturizer. Many anti-aging products contain retinoids, and these compounds work better when not exposed to sunlight. Vitamins C and E, also ingredients in many anti-agers, do better when kept away from daylight, so applying strong anti-aging night creams before hitting the sack will give you the most anti-aging bang for your buck.
- Avoid wrinkles by sleeping on your back. I know it seems stupid, but experts swear that sleeping on your stomach or side mashes your skin and causes facial wrinkles. This is bad news for me–I hate sleeping on my back. Maybe I can just switch to a silky pillowcase or something!
These hints may help turn back the hands of time…even if just a little. They certainly couldn’t hurt!

To everyone-who-actually-enjoys-looking-at-glamorous-stars-in-gowns’ relief, Oscar’s wasn’t cancelled. Stars went all out (in terms of the sizes of the gowns) this year as the Golden Globes ceremony was cancelled. This year, the main trend in the gowns were huge, black or red gowns, and empire dresses for the pregnant. The dresses were all pretty ’safe’. I’m going taking note of the dresses I liked here:
My favourite dress of the night was probably Cameron Diaz’s Dior dress. Yes, it’s not a particularly exciting dress, but I’m a fan of the fabric folds. It’s simple, well-designed and pretty. And while it’s arguable whether her makeup is too simple for Oscar’s, I really like how she sticks to her natural-beauty style.
A trend seemed to be the long, simple dress + big necklace combo. Both Nicole Kidman (in Balenciaga) and Keri Russell (in Nina Ricci) looked very elegant. I thought Keri Russell’s dress’ colour looks really etheral on her, and the necklace is just a perfect match.
Black was one of the two popular colour choices, and huge gowns were equally popular. I thought the best was Hilary Swank’s Atelier Versace gown, with Penelope Cruz’s Chanel Couture coming in second.
The other popular colour choice was red. Katherine Heigl looked gorgeous as usual. However, I am getting a bit bored of her old Hollywood look, and her makeup seems a bit overloaded (-the blush).
Heidi Klum’s vampy dress was comparatively interesting and she was equally gorgeous (in a slightly different way.)
The Marchesa girls: Anne Hathaway looked really pretty. I like how the dress is one-shouldered in an interesting way, especially the way the fabric looks like it falls and wraps around her arms so perfectly. As for Jessica Alba, she looked pretty (hard to imagine her not looking pretty), but she could probably have done better.
The two people who actually chose interesting dresses were Cate Blanchett, who wore Dries Van Noten and Marion Cotillard, who wore Jean Paul Gaultier. I love how the JPG isn’t only shaped like a mermaid, but it also has silver ’scales’ on it, and the dress didn’t look like a costume. Not surprisingly, Marion Cotillard’s dress was many critics’ favourite.
If you’ve read my thoughts above, then you’ll probably notice that I wasn’t overly enthusastic about the dresses. They’re weren’t bad, but just not stunning or surprising. Whose dress was YOUR favourite?

PAULA ABDUL DOESN’T LIKE HER NEW VIDEO?: ‘Idol’ judge ‘trying to pretend like it didn’t happen.’
*Paula Abdul’s big music comeback is off to a shaky start with news of her reported “disappointment” in the video for her new single, “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow.”
The song appears on “Randy Jackson’s Music Club Vol. 1,” the upcoming album from her fellow “American Idol” judge. It will also be available on Abdul’s own forthcoming album.
While the track has received warm reviews, the video made its official premiere yesterday and reportedly has Paula very upset.
“She doesn’t think it’s Heidi Montag-bad, but she’s still trying to pretend like it didn’t happen,” a source close to the entertainer tells MSNBC.com. “If Randy (Jackson) wasn’t involved, she’d be more vocal about it, but she does appreciate the fact that he was involved.”
Abdul, a former choreographer and L.A. Laker Girl, is seen in the video performing the song in a sound stage surrounded by dancers working 1980s-style moves. Jackson plays bass in the band, also featured in the video, and “Idol’s” Ryan Seacrest and Simon Cowell make cameos at the end.

So many gorgeous gowns. I adore Keri Russell’s simple beauty, I think she always looks like doll.
Jennifer Garner was amazing in her black dress and Anne Hathaway rocked the red. Marion’s dress looked like fish scales but that girl is stunning, Penelope always knows how to work the Red Carpet. I would have liked it better if Cameron Diaz put more effort into her hair and makeup. Heidi Klum reminded me of Count Chocula in red and Hilary Swank got two thumbs up for her hair, makeup and dress, well done!

I’m liking the leopard print!
Diablo Cody gives hope to all of us writers without formal screenwriting training.

I love love love the glamour of
Renee Zellweger’s dress. Very old Hollywood. But I really did not like her hair. She looks amazing in the trailer for
Leatherheads; I think another hairdo would have been so much more flattering.
Katherine Heigl went to the Mystic Tan before the Oscars! I like the dress but the round cut out on the shoulder reminds me of a Corn Pad.

I liked
Lisa Rinna on the Red Carpet. I think she’s cute and funny. Her dress is very elegant and classic, I loved the navy color.
Penelope looked gorgeous and there’s something sexy about that Javier!

I love
Cate Blanchett. Not because people say I look like her but because she is effortlessly pretty on the Red Carpet. The simple black dress that
Nicole Kidman wore was totally amped up with those diamonds practically dripping off her!
Calista Flockhart’s dress was one of my faves. The color and the style is something I would wear. Her hair looks like mine except I just rolled out of bed. I’m kidding (not really) I like the curly coif.
James McAvoy and his wife
AnnMarie were super cute. He’s adorable and her dress was magnificent. I love the ruffles, the color, everything!

Do you need a new hairstyle? If you have long hair, it is easy to get into the ponytail rut. Just put it up and go. But long hair offers a lot of hairstyle options if you are going to the prom, having senior pictures or bridal pictures made, going to a wedding, or just needing an updo for a formal party. You do need to know some basics of hair care before getting started with long hairstyles though. Knowing the best way to shampoo, comb, brush, and dry your hair and the tools to use can give…

Hollywood’s leading ladies graced the world stage as they showed off their gorgeous clothes at the Oscars. Many wore eye-catching red or other bright colors, but with draping or otherwise simple cuts. See the most stunning stars at this year’s Oscars. The award for Best Eye Makeup goes to… Kareena Kapoor. And Best Supporting Role? Her favorite makeup artist Mickey Contractor, who transformed her eyes into shimmery bronze, black-rimmed and lush-lashed pieces of art.
Attach several fake lash clusters to the outer half of each upper lash line, then line the outer half of upper lids with Bobbi Brown long-wear gel liner in Black (it’ll stay put through any tear-jerker acceptance speech). Smudge the line with a Q-tip and add another coat. Extend the line slightly up and out beyond the lashes. Sweep deep bronze cream shadow over lids, into creases, and out towards your temples. Finally, top lashes (including fakes) with two coats of rich, black mascara.
